Our Story
We the parents,
family and friends of the late Jorge Rolando (Roly) Gutierrez, in an effort to provide college scholarships in the name of student athletes of the
Rio Grande Valley, have established the JRG Scholarship Foundation.
Jorge Rolando was the son of Jorge and Minne Gutierrez of Edcouch and brother to Vanessa and Amanda Gutierrez. At his alma mater, Edcouch-Elsa
High School, he taught English Literature and Health for ten years, all while acting as the head coach for the girls basketball team. He dedicated his
time and energy to all his students and athletes.
Roly loved coaching and was very passionate about teaching. In fact, he was always preparing his students towards a higher education. He was a kind and
loving individual who often put others before himself.
The JRG Foundation was established by these that love him dearly. We honor him through giving what was in his heart in the form of an opportunity for Valley students.
Our scholarship recipients come from all over the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas.
